3 Hospitalized After Multi-Vehicle West Islip Crash

One person suffered serious injuries and two others were also hospitalized after a multi-vehicle crash on a busy Long Island roadway.

It happened around 4:15 p.m. Friday, July 12, in West Islip on Sunrise Highway (Route 27) between Higbie Lane and Udall Road.

A 31-year-old man from Ronkonkoma was riding a 2000 Yamaha motorcycle eastbound when he lost control and collided with the rear of a 2023 Tesla, ejecting him from the motorcycle, according to the Suffolk County Police.

A 48-year-old Island Park man was operating his 1994 Harley-Davidson eastbound behind the Tesla when he lost control of the motorcycle in an effort to avoid the crash and struck the rear of the Tesla, police said.

The motorcyclist from Ronkonkoma was transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip for treatment of serious injuries. 

The operator of the Harley was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Tesla, a 37-year-old Lindenhurst man, was transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
